Core Infra Solution Leader

On the domestic front, order placing will likely be concentrated on large-scale undertakings related to the “Green New Deal” Project and 30 key infrastructure pro-jects designed to assist in regional economic develop-ment. As a result, the company will focus on taking orders strategically, in line with the central government’ spolicies. It will also improve its competitiveness in order taking by promptly coping with changes in domestic bidding systems, including increased enforcement of the lowest-bid acceptance policy and related regulations.

The Division developed a series of business strategies for 2010 to help carry forward its vision of becoming a global industry pioneer. training systems to foster professionals in such areas as Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management (EPCM).

First, it will strengthen its level of profitability through cost improving activities and increased productivity in the field. It also plans to expand its weighting of overseas operations by increasing its international business activities and seeking out new markets, and will heighten its competitiveness in order taking through a refined process of profitability-oriented selection and concentration.
 
 

In addition, it will proactively cope with changes in the market by adding to its business capabilities and dealing promptly with changes in external policies and systems. A fifth strategy is to build efficient organizational infra-structures by cultivating professional manpower and bol-stering support groups at head office.

Finally, the Division will foster new growth engines thr-ough the development of new technologies and mar-kets and the intensive promotion of the “green growth” sector.

Above all, the Division is committed to maximizing its organizational competencies, primarily by securing new growth engines, developing new markets, and esta-blishing educational and training systems to foster professionals in such areas as Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management (EPCM).

These have included such prominent infrastructures as the Gyeongbu Expressway, the Gyeongbu High-speed Railway, the Soyang Multi-purpose Dam, Busan Harbor, and Incheon International Airport.

In 2009, the Division’s unequalled planning capabilities and advanced technologies helped it win contracts for a series of large-scale projects. These included the Gyeongin Waterway Project and the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project (22 sections for the Nakdong River restoration, 6 for the Han River restoration), both of which are “green growth” projects under the aegis of the central government.

Some of its other undertakings last year were the Boryeong-Taean Road Construction, the Seokmun National Industrial Complex, the Daegu Urban Railroad (Sections 3-4), and the Honam High-speed Railway (Sections 2-3).

The Division also demonstrated its outstanding competitiveness in the area of pre-qualification (PQ)/lowest-priced bidding, which require participants to prove their technological acumen, experience, and management abilities beforehand. Orders received included the construction of the Ulsan-Pohang Double-track Subway, the Jeokseong-Jeongok Road, and the Ulsan-Pohang Expressway, along with the development of the Goyang-Samsong housing site.

Since then, the company has participated in more than 160 marine- and ground-based civil works projects throughout the world, winning praise from its clients for its outstanding technologies and commitment to quality.
Some of accomplishments have included the Jubail Industrial Harbor/Alkova desalination project in Saudi Arabia, subway/sewage treatment/reclamation projects in Singapore, expressways and railways in Iraq, the Penang Bridge in Malaysia, high-speed rail work in Taiwan, and civil works for the SABIA power plant in Kuwait.

Last year, the Division successfully completed the KNPC LNG Import (KWT) project and won a contract for the Jurong Rock Cavern project in Singapore. Current undertakings include the Khalifa Port Expansion Project in the UAE, the Pasir Panjang Terminal Expansion Project (Phases 3 and 4) in Singapore, and the Colombo Port Expansion Project in Sri Lanka.

In 2010, we plan to win contracts for more large projects in the Middle East and Southeastern Asia, while actively exploring new market opportunities in Central and South America, Africa, and Central Asia.

The Civil and Environment Division is committed to creating and maximizing customer values.

It is active in privately-invested projects and all areas of civil and environmental works--including roads, harbors, dredging and land reclamation, railways, bridges, airpo-rts, and the environment.

This is based on the experience and know-how it has obtained by carrying out a multitude of projects under a variety of adverse conditions in many different geo-graphical areas.
