Power Plant Construction

Total Power & Utility Provider

By doing this, it will attain its goal of becoming a global industry leader, achieving KRW 9.9 trillion in orders received, KRW 5.3 trillion in sales, and 6.4% in operating margins by 2015.

To reach its ambitious goals for orders received and sales by taking advantage of promising new overseas growth opportunities, the Division is participating in Independent Water & Power Production (IWPP) and Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, develop-ment projects, and power projects in emerging markets in Africa, Central and South America, and the Common-wealth of Independent States (CIS). It is also expand-ing into “green businesses” in the new and renewable energy field, including photovoltaic, wind velocity, and nuclear energy.

In addition, the Division is committed to establishing innovative strategies, developing new technologies, and reinforcing the capabilities that will help it grow into a leading player in these and other future-oriented opera-ting areas.

Since then, we have built a host of similar facilities--including the Bundang combined-cycle power plant, the Taean thermal power plant, the Busan combined-cycle power plant, and the Yeongheung thermal power plant. We also successfully carried out the Yulchon combined-cycle power plant--the nation’s first Indep-endent Power Producer (IPP)--and a community energy service facility in Busan’s Jeonggwan district (the first such Korean operation to be allowed to sell electricity directly). These many keynote projects have helped the company gain a dominant position in the domestic power plant industry.

Beginning with the Middle East in the 1970s, we have steadily advanced into the international market, building a world-wide reputation for our expertise and leading-edge technologies. Our overseas projects include the Misurata power and desalination plant and the Zawia combined-cycle power plant in Libya, the Al Mussaib thermal power plant in Iraq, and the Haripur and Meghnaghat thermal power plants in Bangladesh.

In 2008, the Division retained its lead position in the power plant sector by executing the Ras Laffan “C” Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP). Valued at a staggering USD 2.1 billion, it was the world’s largest-ever contract for a single plant.

We are now working on the Shuaiba power plant in Kuwait, the Al Khaliz thermal power plant and the Sarir gas turbine power plant in Libya, and the Al Jalamid power plant in Saudi Arabia.

Based on its advanced technologies and wide experi-ence, the Power and Energy Division has successfully completed a large number of transmission line projects, ranging from the 765kV Sintaebaek transmission line to the 345kV Yeongheung transmission line.

It is currently adding to its reputation through the construction of the 345kV Sinwolseong-Bukkori trans-mission line and the 765kV Shinkori-Bukgyeongnam transmission line. We are also building more than 2,000 km of 380kV transmission lines around the world, maintaining our unrivalled lead position in the trans-mission sector with our outstanding planning and construc-tion capabilities.

The Division has successfully completed a series of substation projects in the Middle East and Southeastern Asia. These include a 400kV substation in Iraq, a 380kV substation in Saudi Arabia, a 300kV substation in Kuwait, and a 500kV substation in Malaysia. We are currently carrying out a large number of EHV substation projects in such areas as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Libya.

In addition, our state-of-the-art technologies are being deployed in the construction of the Gyeongbu Line tramways (part of the nation’s rail electrification project) and the Incheon International Airport Railroad’s electric and machinery (E&M) project.

Looking at those cities and nations that are making great strides because of its hard work and technologies, the Division feels deeply moved. We will grow further to brighten the world through change, innovation, and leadership.
