"If you are a member of Hyundai E&C, the opportunity is open to everyone"
by Manager Yoo So-yeon (HR Improvement Team)
Q1. Please tell us about your job.
I am in charge of the overall system planning and operation of the evaluation and promotion system in the HR improvement team. I do not just conduct personnel evaluations, but also analyze information on employees' work performance and results in multi-faceted ways. I also plan and operate the system to better achieve the given goals. We strive to communicate the HR system effectively because it is important for everyone to know and understand it through providing the right information. It's rewarding to hear from staff, “Thank you, I have a better understanding.”
Q2. What competencies do you need most in your job?
I think “understanding people” is the most important thing in HR. The biggest characteristic of human resources work is that it is centered on people, so you need to have a keen understanding of people.
Classes covering the basics of HR, such as organizational psychology and pedagogy, help me understand and be more efficient in my work. Of course, my experience in off-campus activities helped me get hired just as much as my schooling. When I was in college, I participated in a competition with students from other majors to propose an interdisciplinary research platform. This experience helped me develop my analytical thinking and communication skills.
Q3. How did you prepare for joining the company?
I continuously studied the latest trends and major issues in the HR system by looking up news articles and related laws and regulations, and organized my own thoughts on major issues. In fact, it is not easy to access information because you don’t have the opportunity to actually experience HR-related work until you join the company. Therefore, I was more interested in the changes and issues in the HR system and organized them with my own thoughts, which was very helpful during the job interview.
Q4. Is there a corporate culture or system at HDEC that you would like to share?
I would like to brag about our "promotion system" that opens up opportunities for employees who want to grow. Hyundai E&C currently operates a flexible promotion system. I think it's positive because employees who perform well in their jobs can enjoy more growth opportunities. It can also lead to the growth of the company in a broader sense by providing opportunities to strengthen individual capabilities. I would say that there are opportunities for anyone who is a member of Hyundai E&C.
Q5. Do you have any advice for juniors who want to work at HDEC?
Working in a large organization like Hyundai E&C, you can naturally broaden your horizons and set high goals. It is a great opportunity to develop your own competitiveness because you are in an environment where you can work with employees from many different countries and nationalities. Although I can't experience all the functions, I think it's a great advantage because there is a wide range of things I can hear and experience directly or indirectly. You can then naturally have the opportunity to perform various tasks. Also, being able to work with good coworkers is an important part of working at the company. Hyundai E&C is a place where you can have a more enjoyable work life with good coworkers. If you are dreaming of having fun at work, I would definitely recommend you to try out for job at Hyundai E&C.
