Hyundai E&C’s corporate PR film <Future Starts Here>, released on March 17, is a master plan for the company's envisioned future. Scenes once only vaguely imagined are now vividly brought to life that seem almost within reach. As a self-driving mobility vehicle makes its way across a straight bridge, a calm early morning cityscape comes into view. What first catches the eye is a forest of buildings that gleam like finely crafted sculptures, along with people leisurely beginning their day inside them. On the ground outside, various SPACE – Mobility systems move in an orderly fashion along smart road. This place, that is familiar yet strangely mysterious, is the future city envisioned by Hyundai E&C. It is the opening scene of the corporate PR video <Future Starts Here>, released by Hyundai E&C on March 17.

Future Starts Here is Hyundai E&C’s first corporate PR video in six years, following the release of <Out of Frame in 2019>. The new 3-minute and 34-second film presents Hyundai E&C’s core business areas and achievements, including civil engineering, architecture, housing, plants, and new energy, in a seamless flow. While <Out of Frame> dynamically showcased global accomplishments driven by Hyundai E&C’s spirit of challenge and creative thinking, <Future Starts Here> now fully captures the company’s vision for a better future for mankind and its identity as a total solution provider leading the construction industry.

On the same day it released <Future Starts Here>, Hyundai E&C unveiled <The Specialist>, a PR series highlighting its five core business areas. Each one-minute video concisely presents the key achievements of Hyundai E&C’s business divisions. As the title suggests, the series introduces specialists who are making remarkable strides across the construction industry, backed by unmatched technology and expertise. Both the main video <Future Starts Here>and the business-focused <The Specialist> series have been released in Korea and internationally (in English), and will be utilized across various platforms, including social media and both internal and external events.

3-Minute-34-Second Journey into the Vision of Hyundai E&C and Hyundai Motor Group

As the title suggests, <Future Starts Here> offers an emotional portrayal of Hyundai E&C’s technologies and achievements that will soon become a natural part of everyday life. Set against the backdrop of a highly advanced smart city, the narrative begins with the daily lives of the people who inhabit it and gradually expands to the city’s core infrastructure and global industrial sites. It sheds light on the transformation of living environments through housing, the aspect most closely connected to our lives, and showcases the scale of progress in future construction technology through endless bridges and tunnels. Finally, it highlights plants and energy industry facilities which are the foundation of industrial development, suggesting that a prosperous future awaits when all these elements come together in harmony.

Anyone with a keen eye might have noticed right away - the future vision of the Hyundai Motor Group is subtly present throughout the company's PR video, almost like the air we breathe. AAMs fly between the landmarks built by Hyundai E&C, Hyundai Motor's autonomous mobility vehicles appear throughout the city, and even the four-legged robot SPOT can be seen working on a construction site. <Future Starts Here> links the Hyundai Motor Group's vision for the city of the future with Hyundai E&C's core business areas, highlighting Hyundai E&C's role in shaping future lifestyles and reinforcing its identity as an innovative company.

A Future More Real Than Reality: Behind the Scenes of Video-Making

Every scene in <Future Starts Here> feels so realistic, it’s as if you are living it. The video leaves a powerful impression, as though you’ve stepped into a time machine and glimpsed the future. To vividly convey the future Hyundai E&C aims to build, the PR film focuses on portraying the vision of Hyundai E&C and Hyundai Motor Group as a tangible, near-future reality rather than a distant, abstract concept.

Rather than presenting results or technologies in a list format, the production team employed special techniques typically used in films. Matte painting (a method of inserting painted backgrounds into real footage) and full 3D work was done to maximize spatial depth and realism. In scenes requiring a sense of speed, such as self-driving mobility vehicles on the road or AAM flying through the city, CG effects were not used alone but seamlessly combined with live-action footage to create a more dynamic, immersive experience.

How were technologies still under development, such as SMRs (Small Modular Reactors), brought to life in the video? Hyundai E&C devoted significant effort to grounding each element in reality - through in-depth collaboration between the video production team and on-site staff from the business divisions. The goal was to create a seamless connection between present and future technologies. As a result, the visuals resemble a documentary, depicting a landscape where people, technology, and infrastructure coexist in harmony. Although several weeks were spent perfecting a single scene, these efforts made <Future Starts Here> deeply immersive, portraying a future that hasn’t arrived yet, but feels as close as tomorrow.
