Hyundai E&C has made it to the DJSI World list for the 12th consecutive year in the 2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Management Index (DJSI) evaluation and has been selected as the world's No. 1 in the ‘construction and engineering sector’ for the second consecutive year.

The DJSI World list is an index given only to the firms with top 10% ESG management level among the top 2,500 companies in terms of global market capitalization, which means that Hyundai E&C has been recognized as an outstanding global leader in the field.

*DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index) is a sustainable investment index jointly developed by Dow Jones in the U.S., the world's largest financial information provider, and RobecoSAM, a Swiss international investment company, and announces the results of evaluating not only corporate economic performance but also environmental and social sustainability every year.

With that, Hyundai E&C has been selected nine times as the world’s ‘Industry Leader’ in the construction/engineering category, which is meaningful in that it is the first-ever achievement in the industry.

In the 2021 construction/engineering evaluation, the score gap widened between evaluated  companies due to reasons of new questions and expanded substantiation, and only three of the global builders were honored to make it to the World list.

The DJSI evaluates the sustainability of three ESG* categories of the environment, society, and governance structure of companies, and Hyundai E&C received high scores by appointing female outside directors, expanding eco-friendly energy businesses and resolving to decorbonize, strengthening ethical/compliance management, assessing ESG management of subcontractors, and expanding disclosure of non-financial information.

*ESG : ESG refers to Environment, Social, Governance, including corporate social investment and management

In addition, the company operates a quarterly consultative body for sustainable management and reports the ESG risks to the level of board of directors for deliberation.

In this year’s annual report, Hyundai E&C for the first time as a construction company, included the 『4P (▲Prosperity ▲Planet ▲People ▲Principle)』 metrics which are the ESG information disclosure framework of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

It also reflected specific implementation progress and non-financial performance by domain,  including strengthening global competitiveness, responding to climate change, enhancing safety and health performance, and building value chain capabilities.

In addition, various ESG information is disclosed, and the ‘Letter of Stakeholder on Coal-Free Declaration’ was included in the report, formalizing an internal policy that decided to exclude new participation in domestic and foreign coal-related investment/construction projects in the future, and informing stakeholders of the implementation process.

Hyundai E&C received an integrated A ratings for the fourth consecutive year in the 2021 ESG integrated evaluation conducted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) on 765 listed companies in the environmental, social and governance sectors.

In particular, it has won A ratings in the E segment, S segment, and G segment this year is  accelerating its ESG management for sound sustainable growth.

Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C was also ranked No. 1 in the overall construction industry category at the 2021 Korea Sustainability Index hosted by the Korea Standards Association.

The Korea Sustainability Index (hereinafter KSI) is the largest stakeholder-based survey in Korea that evaluates since 2009, the level and sustainability of Korean companies' social responsibility based on ISO26000, an international standard for social responsibility.
