■ NATM(New Austrian Tunneling Method)

[ Boryeong~Taean Undersea Tunnel ]


A construction method of forming a ring-shaped support structure around the underground space among rocks or ground while excavating with blasting. Shortcrete (mortar or concrete sprayed on the construction surface using compressed air) and lock bolts are installed to fix and support the foundation so that it does not collapse. It helps to understand the surrounding ground and prepare countermeasures through in-construction measurement irrespective of ground conditions.

Hyundai E&C’s Exclusive Patents and New Technologies in NATM Engineering

- IMG(Intelligent Multi Grouting System)
It is a technology that can inject six wells at the same time, enabling precision control of injection pressure to prevent the ground from splitting or lifting.

- PSTM(Pressurizing Support Tunneling Method)
By forming a reinforcing structure inside the work space, it is possible to suppress and restore ground subsidence during excavation. It is used to drill tunnels under existing upper roads or railroads operating as usual.

- Shortcrete method(Slag shortcrete method + shortcrete flow-linked powder type accelerating agent-based automatic control spray system)
High-quality shortcrete are sprayed uniformly by automatically injecting accelerating agent at a certain rate proportionate to the supplied concrete volume. It is eco-friendly technology using slag, a power generation waste.



■ TBM(Tunnel Boring Machine)

It is a method of completing a tunnel by repeatedly performing excavation and mucking with a cylindrical excavator, and vibration and noise are low due to zero blasting. It is considered an eco-friendly and safe method because it prevents the water level from falling and generates almost no dust and pollutant. Hyundai E&C, with its world-class technology and world's first developed test equipment, has been successfully carrying out many domestic and international constructions.

- Disk Cutter Wear Tester
The exact timing and location of the cutter replacement are predicted by measuring the wear of the TBM disk cutter.

- Rotary Cutting Machine
It is designed to simulate the mechanism of the TBM disk cutter when excavating actual rocks.

- Micro EPB TBM
It is an equipment reduced to about an 1/10 size of the EPB TBM. Major drilling variables can be predicted by conducting experiments under similar conditions to the physical world.

- Soft Ground EPB TBM Simulator
Excavating equipment that simulates the mechanism by which TBM excavates soft ground. Patents have been registered for TBM drilling performance, device assessing abrasion level, and a device for measuring shear strength of discharged earth.

- Optimal TBM Operation System and Optimal Operation Method for Rock/Earth Application
Drilling data are analyzed on a real-time basis and optimal change values of drilling variables are delivered to the TBM driver.
