DH Xi Gaepo wins the Awards of Excellence for Residential category at ‘2023 IFLA Award’

Hyundai E&C once again proved its global design capability by winning the prestigious world-class award in landscaping.

On November 17th, Hyundai E&C received an Award of Excellence and Honorable Mention for Residential and Play & Playground categories, respectively, at the ‘2023 IFLA Award’ that was held in the Futako-Tamagawa Rise Studio & Hall located in Tokyo, Japan.

‘IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects)’ is a prestigious, world-class organization in landscaping and architecture that was established in 1948. Every year, it selects and awards buildings that contributed to the establishment of sustainable city and environment among projects that are carried out by 71 global member states.

The landscape in the complex of DH Xi Gaepo that received an award in the Residential category is based on the concept of ‘Sig-Nature Gallery’, and the landscape of sophisticated Gallery Hyundai that can be enjoyed in an eco-friendly space in the city is its unique characteristic. Although it is a high-rise apartment complex in a large city, by actively adopting the rooftop landscape to apply a biotope area ratio of more than 40%, sufficient green environment could be created, and it also placed works of distinguished global artists such as ‘My Father’s Playground’ by the children’s book author from UK, Anthony Browne, and the media-based main gate, ‘The Gate, Tangent’ created by Professor Park Je-sung of Seoul National University, to be evaluated highly for being able to prove a genuine landscape in a high-end residential area.

The ’Rabbit Playground’ at Hillstate Hongeun Forest that won an award in Play & Playground category is the world’s first children’s play facility implemented with 3D printing technology. The liveliness provided by its unstructured shape and vibrant eye-catching colors created an aesthetically beautiful piece, and it is receiving the spotlight for having promoted dynamic activities of the users. In particular, it passed all of the strict evaluation criteria stipulated for the safety of children such as the manufacturing methods and the materials of the play facility pursuant to the Special Act on the Safety of Children’s Products to receive the safety certification, and consequently, it is evaluated highly for presenting the possibility of safe and sustainable products.

Hyundai E&C was able to achieve the record of being the only construction company in Korea to win the highest award in the Residential category and an award in the Play & Playground category. Furthermore, it is proving its design competitiveness in the landscaping area by sweeping various design awards in Korea and abroad such as being selected by Good Design in US for the first time as a construction company in Korea and recently winning 5 different design awards from top 3 design awards in the world, ‘IDEA’, ‘iF’ and ‘reddot’.

Furthermore, Hyundai E&C is persistently carrying out activities to realize ESG management in addition to design in the field of landscaping. Last year, it developed construction materials from recycled empty cosmetic bottles by entering into an MOU with Amorepacific and received favorable comments for eco-friendly upcycling structures by applying these materials to Hillstate Pohang. It also embodied the regional characteristic by establishing a natural harmony of various pastel tone colors that created the shape of waves on standing walls that were installed in front of the lower floors.

In addition, ‘H Wave Bench’, Illumistate’s sculpturing seating wall in Bucheon that received an award at the ‘Green Good Design Award 2023’, a renowned world-class award, was evaluated to have been deemed reliable and considered to have proven its impact on the future environment, innovativeness and sustainability by using collected recycled plastic while Hyundai Motor Company was conducting research and development.

Relevant personnel of Hyundai E&C said, “We are very pleased to be recognized for the technological excellence of the sustainable future product and residential landscaping design by International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLS) that is renowned across the world,” and added, “We will continue to elevate the residential cultural class of the residents through eco-friendly landscape design that is sophisticated while also considering sustainability.
