Hyundai E&C won the Sports and Recreation category and the Building Materials category at the USA Good Design® Award on December 15.

The USA Good Design® Award is the world's oldest design award, held since 1950 and organized by the Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago, United States. The best designs are selected by a group of world-class design experts who evaluate works in various categories, including innovation and artistic quality.

Winner in the Sports and Recreation category, Hillstate Prugio Juan's “Big Net Playground” is a large playground featuring a jungle gym and a slide. Its height and scale set it apart from other playgrounds and made it a landmark component within the apartment complex.

Its net-shaped frame and the 9-meter-tall slide have earned high praise for their outstanding design and safety, combining aesthetic appeal with compliance to rigorous safety regulations.

Hillstate Pohang's “H Wave Wall”, a winner in the Building Materials category, is a sculpted wall facade placed in front of the lower-rise units. It is distinguished for its authentic depiction of waves in an array of pastel hues, embodying the local theme of Pohang.

The project garnered acclaim most notably for its use of eco-friendly materials derived from recycled cosmetic bottles and ultra-high strength concrete (UHPC), integrating these elements into the daily experiences of residents. This marks the third design accolade for the H Wave Wall this year, following its wins at the Good Design (GD) and the Asia Design Prize.

This achievement marks Hyundai E&C's receipt of two USA Good Design® Awards in 2021, the first instance of the company being honored in two categories simultaneously. Furthermore, Hyundai E&C has consistently been top-listed in the world's top three design awards — IDEA, iF, and Red Dot — for three consecutive years, underscoring its prestigious standing in the field of landscape design.

In addition, Hyundai E&C continues to showcase its ESG activities in the field of landscaping. The “H Wave Bench” at Bucheon Illumistate and the nation's first 3D-printed “H Weaving Bench” utilize recycled plastic collected during Hyundai's R&D process. The “H Weaving Bench” was awarded the Green GOOD DESIGN Award 2023, a global eco-friendly design award, demonstrating Hyundai's ESG design management performance.
