The “Heavy Feed Petrochemical Complex (HPC) Project Package-1” is a large-scale petrochemical complex built on a 670,00㎡ reclaimed site in Daesan-eup, Seosan City, with a total project cost of 3 trillion KRW (850 billion KRW for Hyundai E&C's share). HPC is a facility that thermally cracks heavy oil, which is a by-product of crude oil refining, to produce petrochemical products, marking the first time this technology has been introduced in Asia.
HPC Package-1 includes the construction of six cracking furnaces, three splitters (used to separate crude oil through fractional distillation based on boiling point differences), a fractionator, and a quench tower. Depending on the feedstock, the furnaces are divided into liquid furnaces (units 1-3) and gas furnaces (units 4-6), with units 1-3 forming part of the HPC facility. Hyundai E&C's project management capabilities and construction expertise in the petrochemical sector have further strengthened client confidence and bolstered the company's reputation in the petrochemical sector.
