Third Bosphorus Bridge: The Silk Road Connecting Asia and Europe

In June 2016, Türkiye’s third-longest suspension bridge, the Third Bosphorus Bridge (Yavuz Sultan Selim Köprüsü), was completed in just 38 months.

The Third Bosphorus Bridge, a hybrid long-span bridge combining suspension and cable-stayed designs, boasts a total length of 2,164 meters. The distance between its main towers spans 1,408 meters, covering about two-thirds of the entire bridge length. Its deck rises as high as 78 meters above sea level, making it far more imposing than the First and Second Bosphorus Bridges, which were built as suspension bridges.

The frequency of earthquakes in Türkiye has increased more than 35 times compared to 20 years ago. The Third Bosphorus Bridge is designed to withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake.


✔ 1860 MPa

The main cable consists of 127 prefabricated parallel wire strands of ultra-high-strength wire with a diameter of 5.4 mm and a tensile strength of 1860 MPa. It can support a load of approximately 90,000 tons. The total length of the wire used is 80,000 km - enough to circle the earth twice.

Singapore Marina One: The Green Heart of the City

In October 2017, Hyundai E&C completed Marina One, a heart-shaped green plaza in Singapore's tourist hub, Marina Bay.


✔ Green Heart

The most striking feature of Marina One is its central garden, the “Green Heart”. This space blends tropical plants with waterfront elements, and when viewed from above, it resembles the shape of a human heart, with streamlined louvers forming a heart-like outline across four buildings. These flowing louvers begin at the lower floors and extend to the top of the towers, creating the impression of a gentle wave sweeping through the structure. As a result, each floor varies in size and shape, with no straight columns, reflecting the natural principle that even identical objects can appear different.


✔ “Louvers Make the Green Heart Beat!”

In Singapore’s tropical climate, where the sun is intense, it’s essential to prevent excessive heat from entering buildings. Louvers block direct sunlight and regulate natural light, helping to curb excessive increase of indoor temperature. They also soften the boundary between the building and its natural surroundings, allowing air to circulate naturally - as if the ventilation system is always at work.




✔ The Heart of Marina One: Green Heart, The Heart of Marina Bay: Marina One

Marina One features approximately 37,000 pyeong (122,314m²) of green space, equivalent to the size of 18 soccer fields. In addition to the iconic Green Heart, there are high-ceilinged gardens on the 4th and 15th floors, as well as on the rooftop of the office building. That is why, Marina One’s tallest point reaches 224.6 meters, the same height as Korea’s 63 Building.

In November 1981, Hyundai E&C won the Penang Bridge Project, linking mainland Malaysia with the world-famous tourist destination, Penang Island.


✔ The World’s Third-Longest Bridge at the Time, Asia’s Largest



The 13.5-kilometer-long Penang Bridge has an 8.5-kilometer-long sea section, making it the longest bridge in Asia at the time and the third longest in the world. Even nearly 40 years after its completion, it remains one of the three longest bridges in Southeast Asia and a popular tourist attraction in Malaysia.



✔ Why Penang Island Has Become a Global Tourist Destination



In addition to the Penang Bridge, two interchanges (ICs) connecting the bridge to other routes, four overpasses, and a 2,600-meter connecting road were also constructed. Before 1985, when the state-run ferry was the only means of transportation between the peninsula and Penang Island, traffic was limited. However, the opening of the bridge led to a surge in traffic. Penang Island became a major tourist destination in Malaysia and experienced economic growth alongside the mainland. As traffic continued to increase, the second Penang Bridge was completed in 2014 to meet the growing demand. The Penang Bridge has become a pivotal moment in the development of Malaysia's transportation infrastructure.
