Hyundai E&C Wins the First Overseas Order of 2021 in Saudi Arabia:
Construction of 380kV Transmission Lines Between Hail#3 Substation to Al Jouf Substation

Last January 10th (local time), Hyundai E&C officially signed an order issued by Saudi Electricity Company(SEC) worth $199.4 million for the Construction of 380kV Transmission Lines Between Hail#3 Substation to Al Jouf Substation, embarking on the first overseas order of the year.

This project is the result of the strong trust demonstrated by the SEC towards Hyundai E&C amidst the aggressive order intake competition among local Saudi companies.

Awarded its first overseas order of the year, Hyundai E&C has demonstrated to have taking another step further to becoming a global leader despite the construction recession due to COVID-19.

The Hyundai E&C’s project for 380 KV power lines between substations in Hail and Al Jouf involves constructing a high-voltage power lines running 375 km from Saudi’s northwestern city of Hail and Al Jouf province and will break ground in January this year, with 22 months of construction, before being completed in October 2022.

With this order, Hyundai E&C has been recognized for its excellent and implementation know-how and favorably positioned itself to clinch more orders coming from Saudi Electricity Company(SEC) in the future. 

In 2020, Hyundai E&C bagged orders for constructing the Panama Metro Line 3, Qatar’s Lusail Tower in the overseas construction market despite COVID-19 and low oil prices, recording a huge order log of 6.45 billion US dollars (according to the International Contractors Association of Korea), attesting to its power as the “big brother” in the Korean construction sector.

In 2021 as well, Hyundai E&C will work to enhance overseas competitiveness and become a leading player in the global construction market by developing new markets and implementing new renewables and green projects.

A Hyundai E&C official said that the company “was able to win the order, building on a track record of construction know-how,  excellent technology and trust based network in Saudi Arabia,” and that the “order is the result of Hyundai E&C’s reputation as top-tier construction company leading the Saudi construction market, and Hyundai E&C will make continued to efforts to win more orders in the future.”

Meanwhile, ever since its first entry into Saudi Arabia with the construction of the Jubail Industrial Port in 1975, for the past half a century, Hyundai E&C stably secured a total of 156 projects worth about 17 billion won including the construction of Saudi Arabia Ma'aden Alumina refinery. In particular, Hyundai E&C has emerged as the unrivalled leader in the transmission and substation construction in Saudi Arabia, successfully completing construction of 30 powerlines and 23 substations.  

Today, Hyundai EC& has completed 6 projects including the Majan Development Program PKG 6.12 construction valued at 3 billion dollars in Saudi Arabia, recognized for its excellent construction expertise and technology by the Saudi government and project owners.
