Q. Please tell us about your job.

I work in the Global Marketing Division’s Overseas Marketing Office, and I am in charge of sales marketing for new overseas construction projects in Asia. I obtain and investigate new construction information from Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, as well as Bangladesh and Nepal, and share the information with each business division. I coordinate the cooperation with overseas branches to interview clients and discover local partners. Besides finding new construction opportunities, we support prequalification (P/Q) and bidding processes, and assist overall order sales and marketing necessary for winning overseas construction orders.

Q When was the most rewarding moment during your work?

It was the most rewarding moment when we won the order, which is the biggest output for a construction company. The very first order from the country and project of my assignment was particularly memorable. My first overseas project was the construction of United Christian Hospital in Hong Kong. There have been many twists and turns from the initial information phase for the order, but I will never forget when we were encouraged and praised by the colleagues for successfully winning the order. I was incredibly proud of myself when I wrote the project’s press release and saw it actually appear in numerous newspapers. Dreaming of visiting the completed site when I visit Hong Kong in the future, I work hard day to day to win orders from my assigned regions.

Q What kind of competencies do you think you need to do your job?

The basis of overseas sales is the linguistic ability and drive. Sales marketing communicates with many people, including the head office and business partners. Due to the nature of overseas sales, cooperation with overseas companies is more important than working with domestic companies. English proficiency is a basic capability for communication, and additional proficiency in languages such as Chinese, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian appropriate to each country’s situation may be necessary. Based on such language skills, you must have the initiative to lead the process of winning orders, such as discovering construction opportunities, searching for suppliers, and establishing bidding strategies.

Q Is there a corporate culture of Hyundai E&C that you are very proud of?

I would pick the Leader’s Day leave system. The Leader’s Day vacation system is an in-house system that requires corporate leadership to go on leave at least once a month. This system has enabled a more liberal atmosphere for employees to take breaks.

In addition to the Leader’s Day leave system, Hyundai E&C’s corporate culture team is striving to break away from the conservative image of a construction company and create a better corporate culture. Thanks to them, we employees are enjoying a better corporate life.
