Going all out for safety management


Hyundai E&C's is making all-out efforts to manage construction sites in a safer way by putting a top priority on safety management. Hyundai E&C's held a conference to pledge Hyundai E&C's commitment to safety management on August 9. The event, held in compliance with required quarantine guidelines, was designed to prevent major accidents and create safer workplaces.
Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C's will modify the existing safety management system and significantly increase related investments. Hyundai E&C's plans to expand the total amount of orders for excellent subcontractors to about 500 billion won with a view to offer benefits to the subcontractors securing a lower risk of accidents through thorough safety management. The “one strike out” system, previously introduced exclusively for major accidents, will be further applied to include repeated industrial accidents.
In assessing the new registration and renewal of subcontractors, Hyundai E&C's will increase the importance of safety-related factors from five percent to 20 percent. The new registration and tender participation of non-compliance companies will be restricted in order to enhance subcontractors’ capabilities to manage safety. Hyundai E&C's will also introduce a new system to pay a half of safety management expenses in advance to enable our subcontractors to make more active efforts for safety management from early stages of construction.

Hyundai E&C's is about to see the amount of orders for urban renewal projects reach two trillion won three years in a row.
Hyundai E&C has obtained a deal to redevelop the Beomcheon area in Busan. The Beomcheon District 4 project is to construct 18 residential buildings of 36 floors above ground and six basement levels, and community and service facilities in Beomcheon-dong in Busan.
The apartment complex was named RENAICENT which was coined to signify the “renaissance” of the Beomcheon area and the residential “center” in Busan.

Hyundai E&C's recently achieved orders for reinforcement work in succession. The Ulsan New Port South Breakwater reinforcement project was designed in response to the sea level rise and the increasing intensity of typhoon. Section 1-1 includes the reinforcement work of the 780-meter breakwater and a secondary work, while Section 1-2 involves the reinforcement work of the 1,100-meter breakwater and a secondary work.
Hyundai E&C's completed the construction of Section 1 in 2009 which received the Korean Civil & Architectural Award in the category of water resources and maritime facilities.

Hyundai E&C's is taking the initiative in construction innovation by applying smart construction technologies to the Byeollae Line (double track railway) project. Hyundai E&C's successfully demonstrated the introduction of the wireless communication network using TV White Space (TVWS) and the “smart glass” technology, the first of their kind among domestic builders.

The wireless communication network technology using TVWS enables workers to facilitate communication with those outside an underground tunnel under construction through wireless internet. With the help of the first introduced smart glass technology based on the abovementioned wireless communication, workers at the construction site and those working on the project at the head office can monitor the same scenes in real time and hold a web conference.
