Introduction to the Social Contribution Strategies and Key Activities of Hyundai Motor Group and Hyundai E&C

The Right Move
for the Right Future

Hyundai E&C, based on the social contribution vision and slogan of the Hyundai Motor Group, strives to collaborate with local communities through strategic social contributions tailored to the characteristics of the construction industry, aiming to be a global leading construction company. The company focuses on building economic and social infrastructure in local communities, particularly in countries where it operates internationally, and actively engages in mandatory social contribution activities in developing countries, seeking mutual development with third-world and developing nations.
In overseas operations, Hyundai E&C goes beyond mere construction activities and collaborates with international development agencies to support CSR initiatives addressing poverty, education, hygiene, culture, housing, and the environment in local communities. Moving forward, Hyundai E&C will continue to engage in "Locally Based Social Contributions" to collaborate with local communities and contribute to mutual development, fulfilling its social responsibility as a "Global Citizen."

CSR Strategy and Major Programs : 3 Domains

Build for our Planet [Disaster Safety Management Prevention Program]

Hyundai E&C is bolstering its CSR efforts on disaster safety by applying its construction expertise. Specifically, the company has developed a child-protective hard hat to ensure safety of children in times of disasters like earthquakes. This hat is lightweight and foldable, weighing only 320g. It is also the first hard hat in Korea with an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag for rescue operations and quality excellence proven with KC (Korean) and CE (European) voluntary certifications.
Every year, Hyundai E&C provides specialized disaster management training for elementary school students and teachers who are vulnerable to disaster safety, such as teaching them about wearing hard hats and earthquake songs with to-do instructions in case of an emergency. Not only that, the company also conducts joint mock evacuation drills. Hyundai E&C will continue to fulfill its social responsibility in the field of children's disaster safety by conducting regular and comprehensive disaster safety training.

Build for Our Planet [Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change Response Program]

Hyundai E&C is committed to achieving its vision of becoming a “Global Green One Pioneer” by establishing a long-term roadmap through 2050 and implementing comprehensive environmental and energy management policies. Through systematic strategies, we continuously improve environmental efficiency and minimize the ecological impact, thereby contributing to the preservation of the global environment.

H-Nature Garden [Biodiversity Conservation Garden]Hyundai E&C is contributing to the restoration of ecosystems through the H-Nature Garden project that forms special gardens within Hillstate apartment complexes or in public spaces to protect biodiversity. In 2023, we completed the first H-Nature Garden in Hillstate’s Yongin Dunjeon Station complex. In 2024, we completed the second garden in Hillstate Wonju Restige apartment complex, featuring endangered and endemic plants, and the third garden at the Gangwon State Natural Environment Research Park. We will continue to monitor the plants while offering resident engagement programs such as education on endangered species and understanding the habitats of native and endemic species.

H-Green Savings [Energy Efficiency Improvement Project]H-Green Savings is a project that supports energy-vulnerable classes and social welfare facilities by installing solar panels and replacing existing lights with high-efficiency LEDs. This project is conducted in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government Climate & Environment Headquarters, Korea Energy Agency, and Seoul Council on Social Welfare. It not only aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions but also to reduce the energy bills of those struggling with energy poverty. Furthermore, the carbon credits generated from this emission reduction will be donated back into energy education programs for young people aspiring to careers in environmental fields.

Build for Our People [Future Generation Education Scholarship Program]

Since 2014, Hyundai E&C has been operating the Hillstate Dream Mentoring Corps, a volunteer-based program designed to support the next generation by bridging educational gaps and nurturing their dreams and capabilities. The program features a unique three-tiered mentoring system consisting of a Hyundai E&C employee, a university student, and a youth mentee. Through this arrangement, youth mentees receive guidance in both academic learning and career planning from their two mentors. Simultaneously, the college student mentor gains valuable job-seeking advice and career development opportunities from Hyundai E&C and its employee mentor. The Hillstate Dream Mentoring Corps provides sustained assistance to youth, supporting their journey through education, college, and into the workforce.

Build for our Community [Employee Volunteer Activities and Community Outreach Programs]

Hyundai E&C conducts various sponsorship programs to support the underprivileged in Korea through employee volunteerism. The Love Sharing Fund, which has been running since 2010, is a donation program in which employees voluntarily donate a portion of their salaries. The donations are used for CSR programs to extend a helping hand to needy neighbors near domestic and overseas business sites. Over the past 14 years, the fund has accumulated approximately KRW 4.3 billion. In addition, we continue to operate participatory CSR activities for the development of local communities and trust-building for vulnerable groups and communities near overseas construction sites. Employees actively engage in solving local issues, such as supporting the vulnerable in Jongno (where the headquarters is located), participating in the “One Business to One District Partnership Project” in Gahoe-dong, and taking part in blood donation and goods donation campaigns. Volunteer activities also involve employees’ families, fostering a culture of shared community care.

Build for our Community [Overseas Community Outreach Program]

As Hyundai E&C continues to expand its presence in the global construction market, we are carrying out a wide range of social contribution activities to fulfill CSR in areas where our overseas business operations are located. Hyundai E&C requires the implementation of CSR activities as a prerequisite when entering construction sites in developing countries. From 2011, we have carried out 57 projects in 25 countries (Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, etc.) in various fields such as health and sanitation support, empowerment of vulnerable groups, education, livelihood, and renovation of public facilities. In 2024, Hyundai E&C provided food packages to 5,100 vulnerable households and school supplies to 2,900 students in 10 cities along the North-South Commuter Railway in the Philippines, including Calumpit, Apalit, San Pedro, and Calamba. We also established a childcare center in Santa Rosa, strengthening the support infrastructure for underprivileged children in the region. As a global construction leader, Hyundai E&C is dedicated to leading in CSR by persistently engaging in diverse CSR projects worldwide.

Operation of Social Contribution Committee of Hyundai E&C

Hyundai E&C has operated and managed external donations in a transparent way.
Externally, we run the independent Transparent Management Committee (“investment information” – “corporate governance”-“committee”) and also run the independent (specialized) Social Contribution Committee.

Launch of Social Contribution Committee of Hyundai E&C

  • We launched the Social Contribution Committee consisting of external professionals in September, 2018.
  • The Committee is established to enhance transparency in the operation system and reinforce the expertise.
  • The committee operates semi-annually (twice a year), covering agenda items such as disclosing Hyundai E&C’s donation details, sharing business plans, evaluating the outcomes of social contributions, and reviewing and providing advice on donations.
