In 2020, Hyundai E&C secured the 2.811 billion USD contract for the construction of Panama Metro Line 3, a 25km monorail connecting Panama City and the Arraiján district. Beating out major global competitors, Hyundai E&C ranked first in technical, commercial, and financial aspects, winning Panama's largest-ever infrastructure project. The project incorporates seismic design to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 9.0 or higher, considering the region's high seismic activity. Additionally, the underwater section of the Panama Canal was excavated using a 14m diameter Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to minimize noise and vibration, showcasing the advanced capabilities of Korean construction technology.
