The Barakah project is a massive undertaking to construct four 1,400MW NPPs in Barakah, located west of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. A consortium led by Hyundai E&C, along with KEPCO and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, was awarded the 20 billion USD contract after fierce competition from France, the United States, and Japan. The Barakah NPP site spans 8 kilometers in length and 1.8 kilometers in width, making it four times the size of Yeouido, Seoul. The reactor buildings, designed with an 80m dome resembling an Islamic mosque, stand as tall as a 30-story apartment building. Hyundai E&C, leading the construction efforts, successfully delivered the Barakah NPP in the UAE on time and on budget, demonstrating its exceptional project management capabilities and technical expertise in large-scale NPP projects.
