The South Pars Gas Plant Phases 4 and 5 were similar in size and scope to Phases 2 and 3, but with a construction cost of 1.623 billion USD, making it the largest single overseas plant project ever awarded to a Korean builder at the time. Located 105km off the southern coast of Iran in the Persian Gulf, the plant processes and refines a mixture of natural gas delivered via two 32-inch subsea pipelines from the South Pars gas field. The facility handles up to 2 billion cubic feet (56.62 million ㎥) of natural gas per day. With a peak workforce of 18,300 people per day and a total of 9.5 million man-days, the project set new records.
Hyundai E&C successfully completed the project, earning recognition for its outstanding technical expertise and construction capabilities in overseas gas facilities. The company also strengthened its position as a leading contractor in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
